16th INTERNATIONAL NORTH CYPRUS MUSIC FESTIVAL is ready to KICK OFF
The International North Cyprus Music Festival organized by the North Cyprus Music Association for the 16th time will be held from September, 21st to the 16th of November this year in cooperation with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Presidency, Prime Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Tourism and Environment and Culture Department, and with the sponsorship of Telsim Vodafone, Deniz Plaza, Rocks Hotel, Bellapais Gardens and Kybele Tourism. Cyprus Observer media, alongside Telsim Vodafone, will be the sponsors of this year’s festival communication.
The festival will be marked with the performances of such outstanding world stars as José Carreras, Al Di Meola, as well as with the participation of famous orchestras such as St. Petersburg Ballet, Don Kosaken Choir, The Swingle Singers Group, Vienna Johan Strauss Orchestra, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Mozart Requiem, Carmina Burana, Flamenco Tango. The International North Cyprus Music Festival, which brings together thousands of art lovers in historical and touristic areas such as the Salamis Antique Theater, Girne Castle and Bellapais monastery, will host world stars and realize very important projects again this year.
World Music Stars shining on TRNC Scene
Festival Opening will be celebrated with the legendary Zorba Ballet, which has had a remarkable success in almost 35 countries already, and will be now staged at the Girne Amphitheater on September 21st. Music of Mikis Thedorakis and the choreography of Lorca Massine will come to life in Nikos Kazancakis’ legendary novel “Zorba The Greek”, in the beautiful interpretation of Ankara State Opera and Ballet.
The world famous pianist and composer Fazil Say will meet his international and Turkish Cypriot fans in Salamis Antique Theatre on September 30th. The Fazil Say Concert will be held within the framework of the 16th International North Cyprus Music Festival. The program features Camille Saint-Saens ‘ 2nd Piano Concerto accompanied by the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Ali Hoca and the Op.78 “Troy” Sonata for the Solo Piano performance by Fazil Say.
Burhan Öçal & Alexey Botvinov will be the guests at the Bellapais Monastery after having had their 20 concert tours all over the world. Musician of grand scale, Burhan Öçal, and famous Ukrainian piano virtuoso Alexey Botvinov, will present their “Reloaded-2” project in TRNC, having performed it in Paris, Zurich, Basel and at Montreux Jazz Festival. And, finally, it will be the turn of Bellapais Monastery to host such outstanding stars on October, 5th with the cooperation of Telsim Vodafone in the context of the 16th International North Cyprus Music Festival. The program by Botvinov and Öçal will include such musical masterpieces as Bach’s Prelude, Beethoven’s Sonata Pathetique, Mussprgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”, Rachmaninov’s Prelude No 5, and Prokofiev’s “Piano Sonata No 7”.
TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra & Cukurova State Symphony Orchestra will represent another important event in the program of this year’s festival. Their united Concert will be held during 16th and 17th October at the Bellapais Monastery. In the first part of this concert, the symphony orchestra directed by conductor Ali Hoca will be accompanied by Alexander Markov, the Russian-born American violin virtuoso, considered to be the world’s most fascinating violin virtuoso. They will perform the violin concerto Op.35 in D major by Tchaikovsky. In the second part of the concert, Ali Hoca’s Symphony Orchestra will perform Anton Dvorak’s Symphony from New World.
Violin Recital by Alexander Markov, accompanied by Yuliya Starastsenkava
World famous Russian-American violin virtuoso Alexander Markov will delight the audience with concert program entitled “from Baroque to Paganini and Beyond”. The program will feature G.Tartini’s Sonata “Davil’s Trill”, Paganini’s “Caprices”, Tchaikovsky’s music from the Ballet “Swan Lake”, Serenade Melancolique, Valse Scerzo. In addition, it will include P. de Sarasate’s “Ziegeunerweisen Gypsy Airs” and A.Markov’s “Grand Finale” featuring the music of the Gold Electric Violin. A.Markov will be accompanied by a very talented pianist Yuliya Starastsenkava.
Greek Soprano Vassia Alati & Turkish Pianist Çağıl Cansu Şanlıdağ will enrich the festival’s program performing. on October, 23. The concert will feature Ravel’s “Greek Songs”, Schubert’s “Liedes”, and vocal samples from the creative repertoire of Wolf, Samaras, and Fazil Say.
In total, the 16th TRNC International Music Festival will introduce plethora of musical styles: Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, Jazz, Tango, Pop, Electro, and New Age Music. For all tastes and interests, its rich program will include 17 selected concerts and performances from the world theatre and ballet scene.
