The United Nations (UN) General Assembly designated 2017 as the Year of Sustainable Tourism. Accordingly, world color organization “Pantone” proclaimed green the color of the year. Nowadays, the large umbrella of Ecology becomes the most urgent topic to discuss, encompassing such themes as nature, human habitat, philosophy of their interaction, as well as the latest scientific accomplishments of this sphere. Such topics are more than important for citizens of Cyprus, whose island itself exists as an oasis of nature, serenity, and beauty, which has to be protected by the locals and foreigners.
Bearing this in mind, we decided to allocate the first winter issue of Cyprus Observer to the theme of ecology, green technologies, and sustainable design. Obviously, such a broad theme is to be extended further in our newspaper, through the articles about various places, people, and innovations that make the difference.
For now, we tried to partially reflect the theme of Ecology and Sustainability in the number of original articles. Our Art & Culture news tells about Paper Design Exhibition, held in Nicosia, while Health & Beauty column contains the beneficial information about green tea excerpted from the book “Secrets of Longevity and Mysteries of Immortality” by Kayros O’Hara.
Interview with world-renowned Yogi teacher, Yogeswari, touches upon the subject of “ecology of mind” and human nature, beyond many others. While Professor from Dubai University, Hasim Altan, tells about sustainable buildings in our Education section.
Accordingly, news under the title “Try & Travel” informs about Helsinki’s quietest place, Kamppi Chapel, alongside with the colorful article by Almira Khafizou about the world famous “Pantone” organisation.
Together we will explore multiple facets of what “sustainable” or “green” is, in accordance with the motto of 2017, the Year of Ecology!
